The Shanghai Composite Index advanced 0.5 percent to 3,212.94 and Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index gained 0.4 percent to 19,459.15. Hong Kong's Hang Seng added 0.5 percent to 23,701.32 and Sydney's S&P-ASX 200 rose 0.7 percent to 5,760.70. Seoul's Kospi was up 0.2 percent at 2,078.65, while India's Sensex lost 0.3 percent to 28,239.36. Benchmarks in New Zealand and Southeast Asia rose. The dollar gained to 113.69 yen from Friday's 113.21 yen. The euro declined to $1.0632 from $1.0642. Benchmark U.S. crude fell 9 cents to $53.77 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude, used to price international oils, dropped 6 cents to $56.64 in London after jumping $1.07 the previous session to $56.70.
