Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani, Secretary General of the GCC, met at his office in Riyadh today with the European Union's coordinator for combating terrorism Gilles Kerchove who was accompanied by the Deputy Secretary General of the EU for External Work and Security Affairs Pedro Serrano. During the meeting, issues pertaining to cooperation between the two organizations in combating international terrorism and ways for enhancing regional and international efforts being exerted in the fields of regional security and fighting terrorism were discussed. For his part, Al-Zayani voiced the determination of the GCC member states to continue their efforts in cooperation with the world community to combat terrorism and wipe the extremist organizations out, underscoring the importance of joint cooperation to face the threat of terror organizations on the regional and international peace and security. He said that the role of the world community in this matter is pivotal, noting the readiness of the GCC to provide the utmost assistance in support of all international efforts in this concern. The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdulaziz Hamad Al-Owaisheq, assistant secretary general for political affairs and negotiations.
