The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has taken part in the 13th ordinary meeting of the Conference of Parties to the Convention of Biological Diversity held in Cancun, Mexico, themed "Integration of Biological Diversity for Well-Being". The ministerial meeting discussed policies and plans contributed to the integration of biodiversity in order to achieve sustainable development. The meeting adopted a Cancun declaration urging member states of the convention to set programs and initiatives to achieve this goal. Addressing the conference, the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Chairman of Board of Directors of Saudi Wildlife Authority (SWA) Engineer Abdurrahman Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli said in a speech delivered on his behalf by Vice President of SWA Mohammed Suleiman Al-Tareef that the Saudi Arabian Vision 2030 strives to maintain biodiversity and achieve sustainable development, in this regard, the Kingdom established the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, noting that the Cancun declaration reiterated the Kingdom's adoption of preserving its natural environment and its capabilities and contributing to involving biological diversity in other governmental bodies.
