U.S. stocks rose slightly Tuesday as investors considered positive economic data. The dollar fell about 0.35 percent against a basket of currencies, though the U.S. currency recently has strengthened considerably. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell $1.85, or 3.9 percent, to $45.23 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold for December delivery fell $2.90 to $1,187.90 an ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 23.70, or 0.1 percent, to 19,121.60. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 2.94, or 0.1 percent, to 2,204.66. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 11.11, or 0.2 percent, to 5,379.92, a new record high.
