U.S. stocks closed narrowly mixed Wednesday, after the U.S. Federal Reserve's (Fed's) September meeting notes affirmed previous expectations for a possible interest-rate increase in December. Oil prices fell more than 1 percent. The U.S. dollar rose 0.2 percent against a basket of currencies, continuing its upward trend. Gold for December delivery closed just below $1,254 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 61 cents, or 1.2 percent, to $50.18 a barrel. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 15.54, or 0.1 percent, to 18.144.20. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 2.45, or 0.1 percent, to 2,139.18. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 7.77, or 0.15 percent, to 5,239.02.
