An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 hit central and southern Chile on Friday, dpa quoted the country's National Seismological Centre as saying. The epicentre of the minute-long quake was in the city of Curico in the Maule region, about 200 kilometres south of the capital Santiago. The Navy Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service said the earthquake did not create a risk of a tsunami on Chile's Pacific coast.
