US officials are banning all Samsung Galaxy Note7 phones from all flights amid concerns about the devices catching fire, dpa reported. "Individuals who own or possess a Samsung Galaxy Note7 device may not transport the device on their person, in carry-on baggage, or in checked baggage on flights to, from, or within the United States," the Department of Transportation said in a statement Friday. The ban begins Saturday at 1600 GMT. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said the step was necessary "because even one fire incident inflight poses a high risk of severe personal injury and puts many lives at risk." Samsung only began selling the phone on August 19, but said Tuesday it was discontinuing production following a global recall and multiple reports of some of the devices catching fire.
