Hawaii health officials are frustrated they haven't been able to identify the source of a hepatitis A outbreak on the island of Oahu, according to AP. As of Wednesday, there are 74 confirmed cases. State Epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Park says a major challenge to finding the source is the disease's long incubation period. Symptoms can show up between about two to six weeks after exposure. Park says Department of Health staff members are interviewing those with confirmed cases, but it can be difficult for them to remember what they ate and who they came into contact with weeks afterward. Hepatitis A is spread by contaminated food or water or close personal contact. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday that officials aren't aware of any other outbreaks nationwide.
