The death toll in the April 29 collapse of a six-storey building in Nairobi has risen to 51, local rescue leader Pius Masai said late Sunday, according to dpa. The search effort was nearing an end, and security forces helping in the effort have withdrawn, he said. Individual rescuers were still working at the scene in Huruma, a district of the Kenyan capital, with 19 people still missing, Masai said. Authorities said more than 200 people were in the building when it crumbled.
