Seven of 49 wildfires currently burning in the Canadian province of Alberta are out of control, Alberta's prime minister says, according to dpa. Rachel Notley says the Fort McMurray fire is by far the largest, and the community is the most severely affected, but stresses that fires are being fought in other locations. "I want to underline to all Albertans that fire conditions remain extreme in the province and that several communities are battling wildfires," Notley says. Notley spoke at a special briefing on the situation around Fort McMurray in the north-east of the province where more than 80,000 people have been forced to flee their homes. Officials say the firefighting effort involves more than 1,110 firefighters, 145 helicopters, 138 pieces of heavy equipment and 22 air tankers.
