UN envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Alshiekh said that the Yemeni opposition parties have submitted today a comprehensive paper including their vision about the forthcoming period and a proposal for withdrawal and weapon surrender as well as the issues of prisoners of war, and the political issue. In a press conference following a round of talks between the Yemeni parties, he said the Yemeni government delegation has also completed its vision for other issues, including the UN proposal on the forthcoming phase and restoration of the State's institutions, resumption of the political process and the issues of prisoners of war and the detainees. He said the mediators are busy now putting a general strategy including the proposals of the two parties, trying to draw common factors, noting that he sees a positive political understanding. We are working to overcome all the obstacles preventing reaching a political understanding, he added. He went on to say that peace in Yemen would not be without a political solution and that Kuwait consultations would put the general and practical framework for this solution. He said war was flaring for more than one year and it is impossible to solve the issue within one or two days. However, if a quick solution was reached, it would be fragile, he concluded.
