The medical team announced today the success of separation surgery underwent by Pakistani conjoined twins, Fatima and Masha el, at King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children at King Abdulaziz Medical City affiliated to the Ministry of National Guard in Riyadh. Advisor at the Royal Court and Head of the Medical Team Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabiah explained that multiple medical tests were made for the twins, which showed that they were conjoined at the lower chest and abdomen, and shared the chest wall and liver. He also said that the tests showed the possibility of separating the twins with a success rate of 80%. the twins underwent a six-stage surgery that took about seven hours. The medical team consisted of 20 doctors and specialists. The twins arrived in Riyadh on March 3rd, as Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud issued directives to host them with their parents to explore the possibility of separating them. This twins separation surgery is the 40th case (out of 94 cases) reviewed by the National Program for Separation of Siamese Twins.
