The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned strongly the terrorist attack claimed by members of Al-Qaeda in North Africa on Sunday 13 March 2016 at a tourist resort in Grand Bassam city in Cote d'Ivoire, killing 14 civilians and two special force members. The OIC secretary General, Iyad bin Ameen Madani, denounced the acts perpetrated by those outlaw terrorist groups targeting innocent citizens and unarmed foreigners. He extended his condolences to the Government of Cote d'Ivoire and the families of the victims and wished the wounded speedy recovery. Madani reiterated the OIC's full support to the Government of Cote d'Ivoire in its efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism, and urged it to reinforce security and protection of touristic areas and cities. He also called on the authorities to identify the perpetrators of such acts targeting the country, especially its economic infrastructures, and to bring them to justice, reaffirming the OIC's firm position supporting Member States in their efforts to fight the different forms and manifestations of terrorism.
