Saudi Arabia confirmed that the child in any society is the basis of a constructive and steady growth. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ratified the United Nations Convention on the rights of the Child in 1996, and the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the rights of the Child and the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflicts, on 28 June 2010. This came in a speech of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia before the 31st session of the Human Rights Council today to discuss the rights of the child. The speech was delivered by Saudi Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, Faisal bin Hassan Trad. Ambassador Trad said that Saudi Arabia has ratified the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child regarding the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography. The child protection system was issued in November 2015, which aims at protecting child from all forms of abuse and neglect. This system integrates with the system of protection from abuse issued in September 2013, which aims at protecting child from abuse of all kinds of abuse. He pointed out that the Kingdom launched the National Family Safety Program in 2010 to support the child, in order to promote awareness of child rights with the participation of 15 governmental and non-governmental entities. As many as 64 centers for protecting children from violence were established. Regarding to the child's health, he pointed out that the Kingdom adopted the health passport for the child, which means monitoring the child's health. The targeted proportions of child health care were achieved, as vaccination ratio reached 98.2% and five-year-child mortality rates were reduced by two-thirds.
