The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stressed that it takes care of the people with disabilities based on the principles and rulings of the Islamic Shari‘ah which calls to protect their rights and prevent violating their rights. The Kingdom has taken a number of procedures aiming to protect and enhance their rights as stated in 27th article of the Basic Law of Governorance "the State shall guarantee the right of the citizen and his family in emergencies, sickness, disability, and old age, and shall support the social security system and encourage institutions and individuals to participate in charitable work." This came in the Kingdom's speech before the 31st session of the Human Rights Council delivered by Dr. Khalid Manzalawi, member of the Kingdom's delegation to the meeting. He stressed that any detrimental discrimination against persons with disabilities is prohibited in accordance with the Kingdom's regulations as 8th Article stated that "Governance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia shall be based on justice, shura (consultation), and equality in accordance with the Islamic Shari‘ah." During the discussion's session of the rights of the persons with disabilities in the Human Rights Council, Dr. Manzalawi confirmed that the regulations of Welfare of the Persons with Disabilities included rulings enhancing and protecting rights of the persons with disabilities. He disclosed that the executive regulation of non-governmental rehabilitation centers for persons with disabilities encouraged the private sector to participate in welfare of the persons with disabilities through facilitating measures. --More
