Explosions and gunfire were heard on Sunday night near the Indian consulate in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif, according to dpa. "The Indian consulate is not under attack, the attackers are surrounded inside a house within the vicinity of the consulate," said Sher Mohammad Durani, the police spokesman for Balkh province, of which Mazar-e-Sharif is the capital. He said that Afghan special forces have started house-to-house searches and were closing in on the attackers, but did not elaborate on the number of assailants.
