The European Union set up a fund Tuesday to channel aid to Syrian refugees in Turkey, days before a summit at which the bloc hopes to secure Ankara's help in stemming migration flows, dpa reported. "In dealing with the refugee crisis, it is absolutely clear that the EU needs to step up its cooperation with Turkey," European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans said in a statement. "This money is about providing support to further improve daily lives and socio-economic conditions of Syrians seeking refuge in Turkey," he added. The EU has been courting Turkey for almost two months in a bid to enlist its help in managing the migrants and asylum seekers that have been transiting through its territory on their way to Europe. -- SPA 19:39 LOCAL TIME 16:39 GMT تغريد
