A building collapse in central China's Henan Province on Friday afternoon has left 17 workers dead and 23 injured, said government sources late night on Friday. The two-story house, which was built in the 1990s in Beiwudu Town, Wuyang County, suddenly collapsed at around 3:30 p.m. when construction workers were attempting to lift its foundation, Xinhua quoted the county's publicity official as saying. Rescuers pulled out 40 workers from the debris as of 10:50 p.m. Friday. Seventeen died and 23 others were injured, with nine in a serious condition. Rescue work is still under way. The cause of the accident is unknown.
