A roof collapse in a deserted mine in southwest China killed one person and left another six missing on Wednesday, local authorities said Thursday. The accident happened on Wednesday morning at the Longdonggou Coal Mine in Kaiyang County, Guizhou Province, where 11 workers were sent to repair the drainage system in the abandoned pit. The mine's roof suddenly fell, trapping all the workers. As of 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, five people had been pulled out of the collapsed site, with one dead and two injured, Xinhua quoted the local government as saying. The conditions of the other six remain unclear. Rescue work at the site is going on.
