EU and Balkan leaders will consider giving their support to the creation of a new border-control mission at the Greek frontier with Albania and Macedonia, according to a draft statement prepared for crisis talks Sunday in Brussels. The new operation by the EU border agency Frontex would focus on both exit checks and "registration of refugees and migrants who have not yet registered in Greece," according to the draft of the joint leaders' statement, a copy of which was seen by dpa. The document calls for "immediate implementation of bilateral border-related confidence-building measures" between Greece and Macedonia. The two countries have long been fighting over the name Macedonia, which Athens claims for one of its provinces. The draft statement could still change ahead of Sunday's emergency meeting, which was convened by European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.
