AlHijjah 26, 1436, October 10, 2015, SPA -- Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani stressed that the Middle East region is facing complex and varied challenges, notably the threat from the ISIS "Da'aesh" terrorist organization, the security situations in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya and the occupied Palestinian territories, in addition to other challenges which affect regional stability, including energy price fluctuations, depleting natural resources and challenges of human development. His remarks came in a speech he delivered today at a debate in Abu Dhabi as part of Beirut Institute Forum. Al-Zayani explained that ISIS terrorist organization has expanded its influence in two beloved countries, namely Iraq and Syria, and is currently trying to expand its influence in other Arab countries, pointing out that the fight against it and eliminating its danger would be possible only if all anti-ISIS parties, including Russia, worked together in a coordinated manner. "The elimination of ISIS will not solve the greater threat of extremism and violence, and we should give the highest priority and do everything we could to prevent brainwashing and indoctrination among our young generations," he warned. The GCC Secretary-General stressed that his organization takes this matter very seriously, hoping that the United Nations counter-terrorism center, which was established at the initiative of late Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and is being funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, could be able to work as a focal point for exchanging information, ideas and coordinating efforts to fight extremism. --More 00:03 LOCAL TIME 21:03 GMT تغريد
