AlQa'dah 03, 1436, August 18, 2015, SPA -- The US government is weighing allowing regularly scheduled commercial flights to Cuba but no decision has been reached as Washington continues to normalize ties with Havana, the State Department said Tuesday, dpa reported. Spokesman John Kirby said "scheduled air service to Cuba by US-based airlines is permissible," but that talks are still ongoing within the US government and with Cuban authorities about the details. "No decisions have yet been made, and of course, we seek to continue to have these technical discussions in the near future," he said, noting US and Cuban authorities are due to continue talks September 9-10. Kirby's remarks came in response to a Wall Street Journal report that President Barack Obama's administration is working to reach agreement with Cuba on commercial flights by year's end and also looking at ways to further loosen travel restrictions. Currently the only flights between the countries are charter flights.
