Peace talks to resolve the conflict in South Sudan collapsed shortly before Monday's deadline to sign an agreement, dpa reported. President Salva Kiir had been scheduled Friday to travel to Addis Ababa to take part in the negotiations, but his government announced he would not be going as it also called back its negotiators from the Ethiopian capital, the Sudan Tribune newspaper reported. The development occurred two days after a South Sudanese rebel leader said he and other commanders had split from their leader Riek Machar."
