Thirteen people were killed and dozens injured when an explosion ripped through a crowded market in north-eastern Nigeria, dpa quoted police as saying Sunday. A female suicide bomber detonated explosives strapped to her body in the middle of a crowd of people lining up at a security checkpoint at the entrance to the market, resident Inuwa Sani said. "There are 13 dead while 47 others were injured" in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, the state's police commissioner, Markus Danladi, said. The bombing is the third attack on Damaturu this month. Three policemen were also killed this week by a suicide bomber at a checkpoint just outside the city while in mid-July, nine people were killed during open-air prayers at the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
