The astronauts in the International Space Station temporarily took refuge from a piece of Russian satellite debris that passed near the station Thursday, NASA said, according to dpa. The astronauts waited for the debris to pass in the Russian Soyuz vehicle, which is docked at the station, and were cleared to return to the main station around 1200 GMT. Although the three astronauts, American Scott Kelly and Russians Mikhail Korniyenko and Gennady Padalka, took precautions to shelter from the debris, mission control never anticipated that it would hit the station.
