There were disruptions Saturday in the tunnel connecting France and Britain after about 150 migrants tried to storm the terminal on the French side, authorities said, according to dpa. Freight services through the tunnel have been suspended, the Highways England agency said, resulting in long queues of lorries on the British side. Passenger service was not affected. A Eurotunnel spokesman told Britain's Press Association that migrants at the terminal in Calais had tried to smuggle themselves onto the British-bound lorries in the early hours of Saturday. Calais, France's nearest seaside port town to Britain, is a landing place for thousands of migrants - many from conflict regions in the Middle East and from northern and eastern Africa - who settle in makeshift camps waiting for an opportunity to cross the Channel. The migrant crisis in Calais has caused frequent disruptions in recent weeks on the transport route.
