Eurozone inflation rose to 0.3 per cent in May, according to preliminary estimates released on Tuesday by EU statistics agency Eurostat. The figure was higher than analysts' predictions of 0.2 per cent, dpa reported. Inflation in the European currency area has started climbing back from negative territory since the launch of a monetary stimulus plan by the European Central Bank earlier this year. Energy prices continued to fall in May, although at a slower rate of 5 per cent, Eurostat said.
