Presided over by its Deputy Speaker Dr. Mohammad Amin Al-Jeffry, Majlis Al-Shura held its 41th session here today. In a statement following the session, Assistant Speaker of the council Dr. Yahya bin Abdullah Al-Samaan said that today's meeting discussed, among other issues, the Culture, Information, Tourism and Antiquities Committee's report on the performance of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) for the fiscal year 1434/1435H. In its recommendations, the committee demanded SPA to draw a clear-cut strategic plan defining its vision, mission and objectives in a way that highlights the position of the Kingdom and its identity. The committee called on SPA to adopt a training program for its employees to guarantee and achieve the amelioration of media work in form and substance, highlight, in its future reports, the actual reality of its achievements and performance to ensure that it has secured its objectives as well as the level of development and excellence, and pay attention to conducting relevant studies and research that contribute to the betterment of SPA's performance in achieving the tasks set for it. Following the discussion, a number of members agreed that SPA's report was not consistent with Article 29 of the Cabinet system, criticizing the lack of the report to many key elements supposed to be touched. One member pointed out that criticizing the committee's report does not mean neglecting SPA's achievements at the local and international arena and its long history in the field of media. At the end of the discussion, the Shura Council offered the Committee more time to study the ideas presented by members of the chamber and re-submit the report at a future session. -- SPA 21:40 LOCAL TIME 18:40 GMT تغريد
