Thousands of people poured into the streets of Paris and onto the boulevard Champs-Elysee 70 years ago to celebrate the Nazi surrender that brought an end to World War II, dpa reported. Today, the Champs-Elysee is once again host to observers commemorating the victory, while also paying tribute to the enormous loss of life that the war cost. French President Francois Hollande, speaking at the Elysee Palace on Friday, hailed the memory of the French resistance and said the principles imprinted by history are still relevant.
