Kuwaiti Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi said that the adoption by Security Council of resolution "2216" on Yemen is a success for Gulf Diplomacy after long weeks of intensive consultations. According to Kuwaiti News Agency, ambassador Al-Otaibi confirmed that the vote on the Arab draft resolution which calls for Houthi rebels to stop the violence, withdraw from the Yemeni capital Sana'a and all areas they have controlled is a strong message from the UN Security Council to Houthi rebels, because of their actions which are contrary to international law and international legitimacy. He stated that the UN Security Council will consider additional decisions and procedures if this decision is not implemented by Houthi rebels. The Kuwaiti ambassador pointed out that the decision is an international legal and political cover for the legitimate Arab Gulf military coalition led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to restore legitimacy to Yemen.
