Japan's parliament on Thursday approved a record 96.34-trillion-yen (802.8-billion-dollar) budget for the current fiscal year that started April 1, with more money allocated for national defence and social security, according to dpa. The House of Councillors passed the highest-ever budget with support from Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its junior coalition partner New Komeito, following its passage through the House of Representatives last month. Of the 96.34 trillion yen, 23.45 trillion yen or 24.3 per cent will be allocated for national debt servicing costs.
