Fiji and some of its neighbours in the Pacific were bracing on Wednesday for Tropical Cyclone Pam which is expected to intensify as it heads their way, dpa reported. Residents have been warned of thunderstorms, possible flash flooding, gusty winds and high seas. Weather forecasters say the system is moving south of the Solomon Islands towards Vanautu and Fiji. Pam was upgraded Tuesday to a category three system and forecasters say it could reach category five by the end of the week. The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a strong wind warning for the northern areas of Vanua Levu, Lau and the waters off Yasawa and Mamanuca.
