Afghan security forces killed 100 Taliban militants during 15 days of fighting in the country's north, a local government official said Thursday, according to dpa. "Afghan national security forces launched a cleanup operation in Imam Sahib district, in which 100 Taliban were killed and 60 others were injured," said Mohammad Omar Saafai, the governor of the northern province of Kunduz. He said 14 Afghan troops were killed and 60 others were injured in the battles. "Three civilians were also killed, and some 650 families were displaced from the district due to the heavy clashes," Saafai said. He said the joint military operation would continue "until the Taliban threat is minimized."
