German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande are set on Friday to discuss a peace initiative on ending the conflict in eastern Ukraine during talks in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to dpa, Merkel and Hollande met Thursday in Kiev with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. Hollande said he and Merkel will present "a new proposal for a comprehensive settlement based on the territorial integrity of Ukraine." Poroshenko, who met with US Secretary of State John Kerry, expressed hope that the Franco-German initiative could achieve a ceasefire. The plans are based on the Minsk peace agreement signed in September, which has since been breached by both pro-Russian separatists and the Ukrainian Army.
