Poroshenko prepares ground for Putin talks with European leaders

AlHijjah 22, 1435, Oct 16, 2014, SPA -- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko engaged Thursday in a flurry of diplomatic activity with European leaders in Milan, ahead of renewed efforts with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine, dpa reported.
Poroshenko met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel late Thursday. He
was due also to see EU President Herman Van Rompuy and European
Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, as well as Italian Prime
Minister Matteo Renzi.
They were all gathered in the northern Italian city for a summit of
European and Asian leaders.
Earlier Thursday, Merkel called on Russia to fully respect a
ceasefire deal for eastern Ukraine, agreed in Minsk last month.
