China said Tuesday that it is organizing a ministerial meeting of the U.N. Security Council to begin the celebration of the seventieth anniversary of the United Nations. Chinese Ambassador to the U.N. Liu Jieyi told reporters "it is high time" for the 193 U.N. member states to reaffirm their commitment to the basic principles of the world body that arose from the ashes of World War II. Jieyi said that history has repeatedly proven that the U.N. principles – respect for all nations' sovereignty and territorial integrity, peaceful settlement of international disputes, and non-interference in other countries' internal affairs – if upheld and promoted "will be a blessing for mankind." Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will preside at the February 26 meeting.
