Six people died in avalanches Saturday in Switzerland, police said, as experts warned of considerable avalanche risk across large parts of the Alps, dpa reported. Nine ski mountaineers were at an altitude of 2,200 metres on an off-piste tour to peak Vilan near the Austrian border, when snow swept down the mountain and buried the group. Three were found dead in the snow. Rescuers flew four additional skiers with serious injuries to hospitals, where one of them died. Police did not provide the identities of the victims. In addition, two men were killed in separate avalanche off-piste accidents in Muerren and in Adelboden.
