Gambian President Yahya Jame'a returned to the capital of GambiaBanjul this evening hours after an aborted coup attempt to throw him. A military source told reporters that Jame'a rushed his way from the airport directly to the presidential palace to restore his rule. In a statement, the African Union expressed concern over the foiled attempt to seize power by force in Gambia, calling at the same time for quietness, enforcement of order and democracy and respect of human rights. The coup, which took place at 15:00 local time, was brought to failure by pro-Gambian government troops.
