A cargo ship with 700 migrants attempting to reach Europe was caught adrift in gale-force winds and rough seas and is now being towed to the southern Mediterranean island of Crete by a naval vessel, dpa quoted the Greek coast guard as reporting Wednesday. Officials said the 77-metre-long Baris cargo vessel was slowly being hauled toward the city of Ierapetra in south-eastern Crete after suffering engine failure. The majority of the ship's passengers are Syrians and Afghans.
