Three workers were killed Saturday and at least 11 others injured in a coal-mine explosion in eastern Malaysia, a rescue official said. The accident occurred in Sarawak state, about 1,070 kilometers east of Kuala Lumpur on the island of Borneo, according to Farhan Sufyan Borhan, state fire and rescue department operations chief. Farhan said the injured miners had been taken to hospital and no one was left trapped inside the mine. Investigators were still determining the cause of the incident, which occurred about 150 meters underground, dpa reported.
