The Colombian government has suspended peace talks with a rebel group over the apparent kidnapping of an army general, President Juan Manuel Santos said, according to dpa. "The negotiations are suspended until this situation becomes clear," he said. He had earlier confirmed that General Ruben Alzate had gone missing in the north of the country and accused the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group of kidnapping him. The government wants the general to be released immediately. Colombia has been holding peace talks with the FARC since November 2012 to end a 50-year-old conflict in the South American country.
