Burkina Faso will undergo a one-year political transition period leading to November 2015 elections in a deal brokered by three West African presidents, reported local media Thursday, according to dpa. The military - which took power after the resignation of president Blaise Compaore last week amid demonstrations - will hand power over to an "eminent civilian personality" to lead the transition, according to the agreement reached late Wednesday. Political parties and civil society groups are to propose candidates for the post. Senegal's president, Macky Sall, Nigeria's Goodluck Jonathan and Ghana's John Mahama arrived Wednesday in Ouagadougou where they met new military leader Isaac Zida, along with diplomats, representatives of political parties and civil society, as well as religious and traditional leaders. The three presidents and their counterparts were due to further discuss the Burkina Faso crisis at a meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), whose rotating presidency is held by Mahama, in Accra on Thursday.
