At least 192 people are missing following a landslide in central Sri Lanka, the Disaster Management Centre said Thursday. The official figure was released as some 500 soldiers and volunteers resumed search-and-rescue operations, but didn't find any survivors. "The hope for finding survivors are dimming as most of the houses are buried under the mud," dpa quoted an official from the centre as saying. The operation in the Meeriyabedda area in Koslanda, 200 kilometers east of the capital Colombo, resumed despite bad weather, said military spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera. "The risk of more landslides in the area and difficulties in accessing certain areas is making the operations difficult," he said. Two more bodies were recovered, taking the toll to 16.
