New Afghan President Ashraf Ghani arrived in China on Tuesday to seek Beijing's support for energy and infrastructure projects, and attend an international meeting on Afghanistan's development and security, dpa reported. Ghani was scheduled to meet President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and other leaders before he and Li attend the fourth ministerial meeting of the Istanbul Process on Friday, officials said. "My expectation is to deepen and broaden our partnership and our cooperation with China," Ghani told China's official Xinhua news agency before his arrival. "We have common interests and we face common threats; the question of threats brings us to cooperate on peace and security," he was quoted as saying. His office said several bilateral agreements were planned during his visit. China is a "very strong investor in Afghanistan's mining and gas and oil sector," and could help the country "become a centre of services in the mining industry," Ghani said.
