Uruguay to elect new president on Sunday

Uruguayans are to elect their next president on
Sunday in a close contest between former president Tabara Vazquez,
74, of the current centre-left ruling coalition and conservative
Luis Lacalle Pou, 41, dpa reported.
Polls are to open at 0900 and close at 2030 GMT.
Until just recently, Vazquez seemed poised to take over as
standardbearer for outgoing President Jose Mujica's Broad Front
(Frente Amplio), a centre-left coalition.
