The United States "strongly" condemns the terrorist attack that targeted a military checkpoint in Egypt's North Sinai province, the State Department said Friday. At least 26 soldiers were killed and 28 others injured as a result of the car bombing attack. The United States pledged continued support for the Egyptian government's efforts to counter the threat of terrorism in Egypt as part of the commitment to the strategic partnership between the U.S. and Egypt, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement.
