AlHijjah 10, 1435, Oct 4, 2014, SPA -- A powerful typhoon was approaching the southern Japanese islands Saturday, bringing torrential rains and strong winds to the region, weather authorities said. According to dpa, the Japan Meteorological Agency warned of mudslides and high waves in western and southern Japan, including the island of Kyushu and the Amami islands region. As of 7 pm (1000 GMT), Phanfone, the 18th typhoon of the season, was 140 kilometres north-east of Minami Daito Island, travelling north-northwest at 10 kilometres per hour, the agency said.
