The Supreme Council of the Cairo-based Al-Azhar unanimously decided at a meeting today, chaired by Sheikh of the prestigious Islamic body Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, to grant its international honorary doctorate to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in recognition of his service to Islam and Muslims in the world and his efforts in support of the unity of Islamic nation. In a statement following the meeting, Dr. Al-Tayyeb said the honor given to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is a reflection of true feelings of the members of Al-Azhar's Supreme Council to the well-known positions of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques towards Islam and Muslims everywhere as well as the positions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards Egypt and its people.
