The World Tourism Organization has said that the Saudi legislations and decisions issued recently aiming at the protection of antiquities and historical sites in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will contribute to ensure continuing development of culture and tourism side by side. The Organization welcomed the new Saudi tourism legislations aiming at the protection of antiquities and heritage, as well as authorizing Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities to ensure their preservation. The Organization's Secretary General Dr. Taleb Al-Rifai noted that the approval of the Saudi Law of antiquities, museums and architectural heritage came simultaneously with the approval of UNESCO to include Jeddah historical area on the World Heritage List in recognition of the cultural value of the ancient city as a unique model of its kind with outstanding urban heritage.
