The Italian navy said Thursday it had rescued more than 700 migrants in two of the latest interventions by its Mare Nostrum maritime search-and-rescue mission in the Mediterranean, dpa reported. Some 620 people, including 167 women and 37 children, where intercepted on Wednesday afternoon, and were yet to disembark on Italian soil. A further 97 migrants were rescued from a dinghy overnight by a passing tug boat, the navy said.
